Yes... there are many new cars available at 0.9%.. I did some car shopping over the weekend.

If you buy a used car, the rates are at 7.99%

Thats pretty low clicks for a 1997 vehicle... so that depends. I would ask myrself, how much more life you will get out of the car by spending $1,000 on it?

If it doesn't look good - there are tons of cars sitting on lots right now where the dealer has 0% financing available.

Hi Montyloree,

I bought a 2008 Uplander in August last year, and my yearly insurance cost is 975.55. I think it depends on the driver rating, the kind of vehicle you are purchasing and the coverage you will get. With $975 insurance cost, coverage is comprehensive ($1MM coverage, $500 deductible, etc.), and rating is 7 stars. Is the insurance cost still high or reasonable?

I've got 150,000 KM on the vehicle...

I'm just being cheap about it. I'm trying to figure out the most cost effective way to drive for the next few years. I could easily buy a new car if I wanted to.

I guess people want new cars..

I'm trying to calculate the anticipated cost of repairs for the vehicle, cost of gas, as it's not as fuel efficient.

A new car will be $300 per month PLUS higher insurance PLUS interest LESS gas costs..

So.. it's actually cheaper to keep the old car if it doesn't get in too bad of shape.

Oy..
My wife's van is a 1997 Plymouth Voyageur..
It's run well for us over the years but it's getting old and worn out.

I went car shopping today again.. to see what the prices of vehicles are like.
It seems you can't get into a cheap brand new vehicle for less than $11,000-$12,000

I'm trying to take my time before committing to car payments.

I'm wondering if it's just better to spend $1000 on fixing up the plymouth voyageur (which is already paid for) .

I guess everybody likes a new car..
