The only chance of removing this item is, if you pay the whole amount off. I guess you can also try it with settling the debt, the worst thing they can say is no.

I mean the original creditor would be more willing to work with you right? Especially if the option is get something or nothing. I mean i'll get it in writing if I pay anything, I want it removed totally from the credit report.

The only way its going to come off your credit report is wait till next year. If you pay this debt off now, they could update your credit file and this item could remain on your credit file for another six years. Here is another option; when paying this debt have them state it in a letter that they won’t change the date of last activity. I would make sure you have the letter stating this before you hand over any money.

What about this scenario. I owe a large cable company $817, The bill was in my name. So many years later i find out that roomates didn't pay their portion or return equipment. SO here I am fixing this. Collection agency equifax has on file doesnt exist anymore. So I called the cable company and their collection department is closed but will call me tommorow. Anything I should know when dealing with the creditor? This debt is from 2004 and will be removed march of next year, but I want it removed (not marked as paid) But REMOVED from my record.....

Items are on your report for 6 years. 7 Years if it's a bankruptcy.
The Credit Reporting Act or similar is what regulate how long things stay on your credit report in your province.

What is the last date of activity on this item in your Equifax file? In Nova Scotia items come off your credit file six years from the last date of activity and I believe pei is the same and if its not, then its seven.

Say you have a collection on your credit report. That is 7 years old, and is still there. Is there a law in canada that says it should be removed? Can you dispute this with equifax?
