Well, if Shaw agreed there was an error/oversight in your file, they would notify the collection agency of the correction, who would then send it to the bureaus to be reflected in their next monthly update.

The main thing is to convince Shaw to amend any errors or failures to follow through on any of the concessions you may have been promised by their reps/repairmen.

Can shaw cable make a change in my credit file for the entry their collection agency made though?

The only way of possibly succeeding will be to get the creditor to change the info they've sent to the credit bureaus. Complaining directly to a credit bureau, especially when you have no paperwork to back you up, is futile. Needless to say, approaching the matter through a collection agency is equally pointless.

If you call Shaw's billing department, perhaps you can get them to agree that you don't really owe anything. If so, they likely would be willing to put it in writing. Do NOT bring up credit bureau reports until, if and when, they agree to an amendment. Then and only then should you bring up the matter of your credit file. Explicitly ask them to make the correction, or quite likely they won't bother.

Removing collection

Postby Medguy2199 » Mon Sep 23, 2013 12:56:21 PM

Hi
I got some details behind a collection file from 2 years ago. I canceled shaw cable servicein oct, forgot to return equipement. Nov 22 i returned part of it, then early december 2011 returned the rest. Early december collection account was opened as i see on my bureau and then I see balance paid. Bureau Lists a date: march 1st 2012 balance = 0.

I know it is slim chances to dispute this, but any avenue to try?... Perhaps calling shaw cable or should i deal with collection agent? When i returned the initial portion of the equipement the shaw reps where really relaxed and infact said not to worry about the fact that this equipment is late (i actally couldnt find the pvr) i had no idea id be sent to collections.

Any thoughts?

Thx!!
