Thanks for the great advice "Collector17," but I'm sure that Ted Rogers, wherever he is right now, has concerns other than the money of some factory joe making 9 bucks an hour.

It depends in many cases after rogers sends an account to collections they do not want to hear from the customer anymore.
especially after a 90 day period if no dispute has been claimed it states in their contract that the debt is automatically accepted by the deliquint customer.

so if you have an issue with a bill, my best advice would to be deal with ASAP

I just know from experience that contact resources buys debts from creditors and if that happened the creditor doesn't want to hear from customer anymore. I’m glad yours is not the case.

there rogers dept is all third party collections, they dont own any of these accounts.

and even if you pay to rogers, the payments still come through CRS's systems, so whether your pay them or rogers directly its virtually the same

If your Rogers debt is with a company called contact resources services, it a good chance they bought the debt from Rogers. This company is known to buy debts from Canadian tire and other credit card companies. If this is the case, Rogers will not help you with your debt.

bottom line...

here's the question somebody should ask when they get a collection letter

should i contact the collection agency?
or should I contact the original creditor.

my advice is to keep in touch with the creditor at all times. The worst thing you can do is stay out of touch with the creditor.. especially if you're behind in your debt. silence from the debtor is much worse then if you contact them and tell them your situation. phone contact means alot.

Don't feel bad about contacting the creditor... while it's embarrassing to you.. they get these calls all the time.. it's normal business for them.

Having said that... if you're in contact with the creditor they'll probably work something out for you.

If I was you I would contact Rogers directly. You don't have to pay the collecters. Any company would love to collect their money due instead of giving up 35% to an agency.
And don't let the collecters convince you that you have to pay them. You don't. 95% of the time the company you owe to will set something up for you.
Besides, it pisses the collecters off and they don't get a commision.

If it was sent to the proper mailing address on the letter sent to you (directly to crs) accounting will recieve them and credit your account.
I suggest you do call in though, give your reference num, and ask to see if you have been placed on a check plan. Calling in before you recieve a phone call also looks good as they will update your file with the arrangments you have made immediatly, and may be able to stop automatic calls from being placed to you.
