So I as a llicenced Debt collector know that we are able and legally allowed to contact a neighbor in regards to contacting a debtor. We are not allowed to discuss the debt with anyone else but the debtor and we are not allowed to identify any information that may lead a non debtor to believe that we are a collection agency. How ever Anytime that you are being contacted by a collection agency and you wish contact be stopped you MUST send information in writing by registered mail, requesting Only to be contacted by mail.

hahahaa Ryan, if you're gonna stick around here any time, you'll get used to the trolls who *think* they know the system by being debtors them selves.

It's really too bad that JacTrac84 hasn't a single clue what he's talking about. FYI the province of Nova Scotia is governed by the Agencies Act, not the FDCPA -- "call them and tell them to cease and desist" thats a good one!

I used to LOVE calling neighbours! CIBC doesn't like it too much though..

Sure, why don't you also send some thugs to harrass the debtors? You sure want to do that.

unfortunately it is not illegal if an agency calls a neighbour and asks them to deliver a name and phone number. However it is against the act to mention anything to do with the debt including the company name. It is a "grey area" which my former boss Charles Manchester at Canadian Debt Recovery taught me.

It is actually a clever way to reach an individual who is ignoring an outstanding debt. the individual will often get upset when a collector calls the neighbour so in return they call the collector and he/she then has a chance to make their dun.

Hey My-Dept,

It is illegal for them to call ANYBODY, but you, for this account!!

You need to call them and tell them to Cease and Desist with the harassment, and that they are in violation of the Collection Agencies Act. Also tell them that if they keep calling you and people you know, you will (and can) sue...

I have not received any letter correspondence or phone calls/messages from this company, yet they left a message on my neighbours phone for me. How did they get her number? The recorded message had nothing to do with any dept or did it state that it was a collection agency, they didn't even say what company they were calling from. They said they had an important letter that needed to be delivered to me. Isn't this a little fraudulent? How can this be legal? How did they know I knew this person who lives over a block away? Who else are they going to call?
