Have you called or written the credit bureau..?

Maybe they have a copy on file, or failing that, obviously some indication in the record that the matter was settled!!!

Thanks for the advice - I did say that I would send a copy of the letter as I thought that I knew exactly where it was - I even made copies of this letter.

Unfortunately for me ... I cannot seem to find the letters at the moment.

Now I am being subjected to phone calls ... great.

It would be a good idea to look real hard for that letter or at least try to see if you can get a copy of it from the agency who gave it to you. However, your prospects may not be too good, especially since they allowed it to be transferred or maybe sold to another agency.

At least dig up any old cancelled cheques that you gave for the settlement from your bank.

It's not up to you to prove that you paid the debt; it's up to the agency to prove you didn't. As well, the debt may be stats barred by now but don't go writing the new agency any letters acknowledging it just in case it isn't. Just deal with them over the phone.

After 3 years, the new agency is almost certainly working the numbers; still, you gotta keep these documents. They're all you have when you pay a collection agency.

Hi there - a debt was settled 3 years ago - a settlement letter was received.

Now another collection agency is calling - told them about the settlement - they want a copy of the settlement letter.

The problem is - the settlement letter is misplaced (this settlement happened 3 years ago as mentioned).

Does anyone have advice as to how to proceed?
