I'm not a "tech" kind of guy but it appears there is a software flaw. If a blogger sends a message and checks it immediately afterward for editing errors or whatever, then the receiver will see the message marked as "read" even before they read it. I apolagize for any misunderstanding this may have caused, but it was impossible to know such contingencies in advance.

Nevertheless, those with privacy concerns still should be aware that private emails are not really private and may be viewed at any time by the administrator and anyone he chooses to share them with.

I believe most forums would not keep PMs unreadable by the admins, they would almost certainly just be plain text in the database. But unless an admin specifically went out of their way to mark a message as read it would stay unread. (I have never seen a feature where a admin could login to a users account, for example).

If indeed you are simply not making a mistake it is most likely a security issue on your end.

hankblank... private emails are indeed private...
unless somebody is copying and pasting them from their private email boxes and posting them to the forum...
there is no other way for them to be seen....

pm me to explain what you think is happening... thanks

I dunno, phone around I guess and see if anyone is willing to take it. Contacting his parole officer might produce some results. He/she better know where his is. Too bad you didn't contact them before he rented.
Possibly you are referring to ODSP. UIC benefits are not shielded from garnishment, but will run out long before you get a judgment. Basically, not worth the effort.

First, because of the bother. And second I believe that particular path is barred because he is on disability or unemployment, one of those government programs that name/function escapes me at the moment. I was thinking that a CA probably would be allowed, since it is so much like any individual asking to be paid what is owed (in many situations you are simply paying someone to phone the guy for you).

There is also a second person who is not on this program who might be liable, so technically I think I could go either way.

Oh really? When I was perusing sites I saw that this one (the only one with any specific at all information) considered anything over $100 a significant amount. Are you sure, I have no/little hope? I was not expecting to get paid much, hell I would put up with just giving away his debt as I truly believe this is one situation where the crime's punishment is partly rehabilitation.

That Small Claims Court does sound like an interesting idea, particularly if I can just send the document to myself and get a default ruling. But I would have to read up on liability laws, and get over the ethical dilemma of suing his ex-girlfriend who was always nice (and it would not even be like I was suing them both, since he is exempt I think). But what would that actually do, if he/she is completely unaware of the courts decisions how does that get me my money?

Note, since we are talking about governmental solutions: I have his parole officers number. I assume they cannot help me?

Why don't you just take the guy to Small Claims Court, if you don't mind the bother, and know where he lives. Not that you have to know where they live because you can easily get a default judgment by sending the Statement of Claim to their last KNOWN address. Of course, a collection agency can motivate them to pay up by sticking the delinquency on their credit file for 6 years since they are members of both bureaus; something which you can't do. But I think you'll have trouble getting any agency to accept an account that small.

Debt Selling (Advice)

Postby wisnoskij » Tue Jan 08, 2013 01:05:20 PM

Hello,
I am very new to this, while I have been a landlord and a business owner for years now I have never had a debt I thought worth collecting.

I am am now stuck with a $750 one from a tenet.

But I do not really know where to start in finding or contacting collection agencies, I have sent off a few emails to a few over the last day or two but have gotten no replies yet, but I am not even sure if those companies are the type that buy individual debts.

I am looking to simply sell the debt or work off some commission deal as I am not interested at all in paying someone to try and collect the debt for me.

Thanks for any and all advice.

this is all happening in Ontario, if that makes any difference.
