Not sure what to do with this company. To date I have not received anything from them in the mail, but they call and call and call and leave some vary disturbing messages. The only way I was able to found out who they were or what they were calling about ,was by searching Takhar on the internet, and it said on the site to enter your phone number and it will give you the total amount you owe to them. To date I haven't received anything in writing. I have since then mailed a Cease and Desist letter, hoping they would then send me something by mail, but they keep calling. Last message said "this is your last chance". Are American companies exempt from the Cease and Desist letter? Are they allowed to collect from Canadians?

Out of respect for Monty; I removed Takhar Collection Services owner’s residence addresses from my post. If Takhar Collection Service has a problem with their residences addresses being shown on other public forums in the near future; they should take up their concerns with the province of Nova Scotia where the information is public for anyone to see.

I would record your calls with them without their knowledge. If they are in NY, I believe they are not allowed to collect from Canadians. I searched the database in Nova Scotia and their company name is legit. It could be that they have you mixed up with someone else and I would request a copy of the contract. If you do hand over any money, make sure you get an agreement faxed to you before hand.

Takhar Collection Services?

Postby pbrownson » Sat Aug 15, 2009 06:59:54 PM

I have been getting harassed for 3 months now by Takhar Collection Services. They state that I have been refered to them by the Childrens Book of The Month Club, and that I am pass due $69.52. I or anyone else in my family have never had an account with that company. I asked the Takhar people to give me a list of the products that I ordered from this book of the month club and they say that it is privilage information and that they can't give it to me. They told me that they could mess with my credit if the debt was not payed. They call my home about 10 times a day. sometimes know one is even there. All of them sound like they are straight from India. I can't understand half of them. This has got to be a complete scam. Please help me get these guys closed down. The address that they gave me was in Niagara Falls , NY. They said that they have sent us numerous contact letters and that is a lie as well. They also said that we ordered the book of the month stuff on the internet on or about 2006, that is funny because we didn't even have the internet at our home at that time.

Please help us!!! Pete

I am almost entirely certain this is a total scam. Everyone beware. I keep receiving phone calls for bogus products from these people with the Indian accents over the years, I must be on some horrible list somewhere. This was the first time they had a legitimate phone number but I am certain that they are not to be trusted.

They tried to convince me that they were trying to collect 102.76 for an overdue BMG Music Services account. I called BMG and they told me that my old account was long settled with zero balance. The account the Taphar (or whoever) agency gave me turned out to be for BMG video, which I have never had an account for.

When I called back the guy was really scary. He told me that I can believe or not believe but regardless he can gain access to all of my information and he can report negatively on my credit report and that there is nothing that I can do about it. I asked him for a single piece of personal information that he has for me and he said he has my name address and phone number and that is all that he needs to get access to my driver's license over the internet and any other information he needs. What can be done about these people?

My guess is, is that if they leave a number and you know they're a collection agency, you're less likely to answer in the future, especially if you've got call display!!

Technology such as call display helps the consumer know when a collection agency is calling.

I keep getting voicemail from somebody at this company. They don't tell me which company is calling, I don't get an extension number and they don't state why they are calling. I have checked my balance with all the companies which provide services to me, and don't owe anything.

What's with the secrecy? Can't they just leave a message and say who they are and why they are calling? I found this website through the 1-877.... tollfree number.

Is this a legit company?
