That leaves garnishing wages if there is a judgment.
Be sure to provide nothing in writing and perferably do not even speak to them till after August has run out. AND DO NOT make a payment.

If there is they could start proccedings to Garnish your wages or bank account. They could go after any cars or property you own. No one will lend you money with an outstanding judgment.
Hope it is not there, and it probably is not.
How much is owing?

@TJ.brooks

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I have ordered my credit report will receive it within a week's time. Will be able to give you more details at that time.

Out of curiosity I just want to know what if there is a Default Judgement in my report?

Thanks in advance.

Regardless wether you pay this account off now will make no difference in the credit report. You make no mention of any other loans etc. so if this is all you have....you will have almost no chance of getting credit.

First you need to get a copy of your credit report to insure there has not already been a Default Judgment against you for this account while you were out of the country. If not, good news is at end of this august since you have not provided a exact date this debt will be Statute barred which means you can no longer be sued.
The debt will still exist and will show on your credit report as a R9...the worst for six years from when it was reported.

The last payment was made in the month of August 2010. I think a minimum payment of $60 was made.

Please help me. I am confused whether to pay or to leave as such.

Advice please New Immigrant

Postby sandeep06 » Thu Aug 09, 2012 12:43:34 PM

Please help me... I am a New Immigrant....

I am Sandeep.. I came to Canada as a student in 2008 and got a credit card in Sep 2008 and had been using it in a very effective way and my credit was well maintained.

Because of family emergency I had to go back to India and i screwed up my credit by not paying from India. I did not have status to come back to Canada. I tried contacting the back but the response was not proper. I underwent some treatment and landed back in Canada as Permanent Resident. As few days passed I started to get collection calls.

I have PR card and also new SIN number. Now I am planning to set my credit straight. How will I go about doing it. I called my bank and they said its been to collections and they can't do anything. I recently joined a company as Analyst.

I can pay off my debts if required or negotiate to bring down the same but I want clean credit report to start a new life in Canada.

Experts please advice.

Regards,

Sandeep
