In Saskatchewan, the legislation governing credit reporting is called THE CREDIT REPORTING ACT, Chapter C-43.2 of the Statutes of Saskatchewan, 2004 effective March 1, 2005. Pursuant to Section 18, it says
18 No credit reporting agency shall include any of the following in a
credit report
(f) information regarding any debt six years after the last payment
was made or if no payment was made six years after the debt
was incurred.
Equifax's POLICY statement is as follows:
CREDIT HISTORY AND BANKING INFORMATION A credit transaction will automatically purge from the system six ( 6 ) years from the date of last activity. All banking information ( checking or savings accounts ) will automatically purge from the system six ( 6 ) years from the date of registration.
PLEASE NOTE These Rules and Policy only apply to accounts
( Tradelines ) that are dorment and are not currently
active. All active accounts will continue to be reported,
regardless of how old they are until they become
inactive at which time the six ( 6 ) year rule will apply.
