I understand what your saying. All the credit bureau cares about is the money they are collecting and they know the mistakes are dilerbrate most of the time and they seem not to care.If there was a way to make the credit bureaus accountable then you would see changes.I don't think it would be hard to find canadians that would join in on a class action suit if someone started the ball rolling.

Well, maybe you`re one of the lucky ones. Not so many on this forum!!

With all the identity theft that is going on out there, according to the CB`s, you are guilty until you can prove your innocence. WTF???

And how do you garner that proof? Some people don`t realize they`ve been the victim of identity theft for years, if they don`t apply for credit.

The CB`s are the ones profiting from this information gathering, however loosely and/or illegally it`s done. If you found out that any other companies, corporations, or persons, were deliberately defaming your character through slander or libel, would you not have the wherewithal to sue??
**That is the question!!**

The CB`s are in collaboration with the CA`s, are being paid big money by them and other creditors, and judging from the many, many stories on this forum where consumers have fought for months and years trying to remove wrong info, and probably many millions more stories out there, the CB`s don`t `GLADLY` remove anything. They`re `investigations` are ludicrous. They don`t give a damn about you the consumer, since they don`t get paid by you the consumer, unless YOU the consumer PAY THEM to get a copy of what THEY are reporting about YOU.

When there are NO LAWS that state they must report credit items from creditors, whether true or false, and if you as the consumer tell them to remove any items true or false, and they don`t comply, why not sue them for slander/libel. Are they protected by laws to prevent this? Millions of Canadians who have sat in a chair at a creditors office and been turned down for a loan, have in some way been made to feel, belittled, ashamed, almost a criminal,.... because of what the CB`s report.

I would also be curious to know if this has ever happened in the US. I`m sure if someone started a class action lawsuit against the CB`s, everyone in the country would jump on the bandwagon.

Any lawyers out there???

The credit bureau can not be sued because they are going under the assumption the creditors and collection agencies are giving them the correct information. If you provide the credit bureau the proof they will be gladly to remove or correct the file. The people i don't trust is the collection agencies because in my opinion the majority of the time they report false information to the credit bureaus so you can have bad credit for a few more years.

Libel suits against credit bureau`s

Postby had_enough » Sat Sep 11, 2010 04:36:07 PM

Soooo.....just throwing this out there.....Has anyone ever considered/tried/succeeded in sueing CB`s for slander/libel????...considering there is no provincial or federal legislation for any credit items to be listed on a credit report????

Really, they can put anything on those reports, truthful or not, based on what THEIR CLIENTS tell and they get paid big bucks to do it...... if they are giving negative feedback on individual consumers, and there is no legislation that deems it a necessity.....who`s to say they can`t be sued for libel???? How about a class action lawsuit against the CB`s for all Canadians, and the millions/billions in interest and way of life its costing us, because of their reporting?

Input anyone???
