I agree Monty. Depending on the province you are in there is also The Consumer's Protection Act and also I found through my research while writing my document a website Weblegallingo or something like this that has a section under the Canadian Criminal Code and creditor harrassment.

My last step with what happened to me is the OBSI. If nothing is resolved then I will seek legal counsel.

I have also been looking into Telephone Phreaking but so far found nothing concerning them taking over my telephone line for an hour and half but Give Up is not part of my vocabulary LOL.

Check out the privacy commission as well... Privacy Commissioners Office

You're right... you had to make some noise about it... That's the only way to learn how to deal with the situation. Otherwise, the creditors , collectors will always have the upper hand.

As we always say, there are no laws that command you to deal with a collection agency.

Make sure you collect all of the paper work that started the original debt and study them.

I would suggest that if after several attempts you can't rectify this with the company find out who their Ombudsman is and email or send them a registered letter explaining the situation.

That is step two if you can't get anywhere with the company itself and you are satisfied with the outcome. :)

I have had to take my case higher up since getting nowhere with their Ombudsman. I have notified RCMP, the Consumer Bureaus Officer in MB, the OBSI, and beleive it or not the Prime Minister LOL ; yep which the email was read and sent to another minister who deals with such issues.

Gotta make some noise sometimes. These companies feel they are above the law and have great skill at using unethical ways of dealing with people.

non stop calling

Postby momma » Sat Aug 19, 2006 12:00:00 AM

We used a local credit counselling centre in our area to help clear up debts we incurred so as far as we are concerned we don't owe anyone anything as we no longer have credit to cause problems and all past debts were paid off....BUT for the past couple of months and several times a day at at the ungodly hours in the evening too, iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency has been calling our place asking us to get in touch with them...What ticks us off is that it's an automated message and not once was it a real CSR to talk too... so today after having enough, I called them and sat on the phone waiting for 20 minutes (and still didn't talk to anyone).. I thought by law they had to notify you in writing as to the specifications that they are trying to reach you about if attempts by phone are unsuccessful. So knowing this number we've either not answered or answered in hopes there was a 'live' person on the other end..any suggestions from anyone who's had this same situation would be great...It's becoming a wonderful harrassment case. It wouldn't be so bad if someone was on the other end to straighten this out with...i've never heard of this company before...is it ligit?
Thanks for your help.
