If you have taken the to gain your credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies, then you need to find out who has put the false info on. Once that is established then they need to be forced to change and make the repairs to the bad info. If you wish to email me I will let you know how I was able to repair all.

I found this on CIBC's website.

CIBC Ombudsman

Step 3 - CIBC Ombudsman

Assuming you have followed the complaint escalation steps outlined above, the CIBC Ombudsman will acknowledge your complaint right away. Then, providing legal action has not been taken on the matter, the Ombudsman will conduct a thorough investigation.

In most cases, you will receive a decision regarding your concern within ten business days.

You can reach the CIBC Ombudsman by:

Telephone: 1-800-308-6859 or 416-861-3313 in Toronto
Fax: 1-800-308-6861 or 416-980-3754 in Toronto
E-mail: ombudsman@cibc.com
Write to: CIBC Ombudsman
P.O. Box 342
Commerce Court
Toronto, ON
M5L 1G2

If the above steps do not resolve your complaint, you may consider escalating the matter further. See the listing for Independent Consumer Support Agencies.

hey stacey s,
You're asking lots of good questions.

1) All collection agents are supposed to be registered under the collection agencies act in each Province. Call you Ministry of Justice, Consumer Protection to get the contact info of each collection agency.

2) Simply write a letter to the credit bureau disputing each item that you believe is inaccurate. Follow that up with a letter to Consumer Protection.

I have a car loan that has been reported twice by the same company which needs to be fixed. The is a judgement listed then further down on my credit report it is listed as paid but in the judgement section it says disposition unnknown.

Duplicate listings are quite common on credit reports.. I've seen several duplicates. These are inaccurate and DO hurt your credit score.

"Disposition Unknown" is incomplete information. Unless you press the credit bureau they won't change these.

These are great examples of a few of the many inaccuracies that a person with good or bad credit will find on their credit reports.

The R9 needs to be disputed with the ombudsman of the creditor.

This all takes letter writing, time and patience.

Let us know how your progress goes.!

Can you explain to our readers what a lawyer can help them with in the current Canadian legal with regards to how to repair credit.

As you know creditors, collection agencies, credit bureaus are all regulated at different levels of government, provincially and federally, by different bodies. The rules are much different than in the U.S.

I haven't heard of lawyers having very much success with credit repair to be honest.

If you can shed more light it would be appreciated.

I did not want to have this look like a promotion for business. The need for a lawyer is paramount. There is only one service that will allow this person the opportunity to speak to a lawyer for a small sum. Our company is well recognized at what they do for the::little Guy:: So I am sorry if persons are offended, but I was a cop for 28 years and know what lawyers will not do if they are not paid. Again our company has over 247,000 lawyers at our fingertips for a small monthly amount of money. I hope that works

Hi Gerry,
Thanks for the post..

Can you explain in a little more detail as to why this person would need a lawyer to solve this type of issue? I would hate for people to pay a big sum to fix something they can read about on this forum.

This is not really a forum to solicit business.

You need the assistance of a lawyer in this area. The three credit reporting agencies are for profit companies and you will not get to first base with them. I will give you some direction if you wish. email me at daltmack@shaw.ca
