I received a call a few months back from a collection agency saying that I owed money on a Canadian Tire account. I am pretty 'green' and have not dealt with Collection agencies so I simply told them it wasn't me. They have my first name incorrect (although it is very close to my actual name) and have my former surname. They have my correct address and phone number. I do not have a Canadian Tire card, although I had one maybe 20 years ago and it's long paid off and account closed. I explained to them on the phone that it's not me. They asked for my date of birth, (which I gave to them, stupidly) and they said the DOB's don't match up. So I forgot about it, and I just get this letter from Contact Resource Services Inc. saying I owe $14,000! I've been searching online for something about this company. Can anyone inform me? Thanks in advance.

Go to www.Equifax.ca

If you have a credit card and can spare $25 order your credit report and check your FICO score.

If you don't have a credit card or can not spare the $25, print off the forms from the website to fill out and send away for your credit report. It is free, but takes a few weeks, and won't include your FICO score.

1. Send a Cease & Desist letter by registered mail.
2. Pull your credit report to see if CRS are reporting the account.
3. Ignore phone calls until they receive the Cease & Desist letter (confirm on line when they sign and print for your records)
4. If you ever receive another letter, which I doubt, don't even open it, just toss it in the paper pile until you are going to have beers in the back yard around a fire.
5. Start fire with letters from Contact Resource Services Inc.
6. Enjoy Beer & Fire.

This place has being harrassing me for 7 years for a debt claimed to be mine from 1995? The last message on my phone was that if I didn't call by 2 p.m. (2 days ago) that there would be DIRE consequences. They just called this morning and left a message that I had better clear up my Canadian Tire account or else. Can they say these things and what kind of dire consequences? Lucky I came upon this site 7 years ago when they started hassling me and you informed me of who they were and what they do. Thank you and any further info would be helpful. Thanks again.
