Hi Dan,

I don't know what they told you, but your back-end "Curadebt" isn't licensed to negotiate debt in Canada.

Entry for a US company to do debt settlement work in Canada is pretty regulated and makes it impossible unless you buy up a existing licensed firm in Canada.

If they operate here, its without a license.

I've heard of P&G and I am sure they are legit in the US. Coaching DIY is a interesting idea but you need to consider:

1) They are US based and aren't licensed in Canada to negotiate debt for consumers.

2) If they aren't licensed here in Canada, they aren't familiar with Canadian creditors and their policies.

I've learned the hard way things are very different in Canada to the US when it comes to debt settlement. I would be reluctant to encourage anyone to use a US company for help with Canadian debt.

With the dollar @ par, and things being a little tense right now in the US with a new FTC ruling that will impact how debt settlement companies do business in America - I think you will see many more of them looking towards Canada and other new markets for business in the coming months.

Be wary.

In my opinion that suspicious that you can not produce an address on your website like all the other legit debt settlement companies out there. Are you a Canadian company because you talk about Obama and that makes me think your American?

Settlement Offer Need advice

Postby fightback » Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:27:18 AM

I offered a 15% settlement to Citibank and received the reply. i had told them I would only communicate in writing, couple of reasons one being that I am useless at negotiating verbally and 2) a little suspicious of them wanting to talk only.
I cannot go any higher than what I offered its that or Bankruptcy.
Heres what they said,
"Acting in good faith we are prepared to consider a payout settlement on your Master Card account. Please be advised full financial disclosure is required from you in order for citi to consider what you propose. If you wish to initiate discussion regarding a settlement of your account please contact directly at etc.
If we do not hear from you within the next 30 days from the date of this letter we will assume you have made other arrangements"
Remembering that I offered a firm $ amount I am a little leery of them saying they would consider what I proposed. Also initiate discussion regarding a settlement, I already did that in my letter.
Are they setting me up for something or is this kind of reply normal?
any comments appreciated.
