I'm in NB. I've actually been through a credit repair nightmare approximately 7 years ago. While it's true that in NB there is no specific laws governing Credit Bureaus, we are not totally lost.

During my situation, I came across something (can't remember what or where) that stated I could point to a neighboring province for the laws that govern them. Weird I know. I ended up pointing to laws for PEI, some for Quebec, and some for Nova Scotia to strengthen my case. Needless to say, I removed about 100% of the unwanted info. I wish I could remember where I found that rule, if I do I'll post in here.

Anyways, those of us in NB are not totally helpless :D

Just looking at some old posts.

New Brunswick has NO law regulating credit bureaus.
New Brunswick residents are at the mercy of the Federal Privacy Commissioner Office with regards to their credit reports.

Anybody here from New Brunswick?

Did you know that there are No laws regulating credit bureaus in New
Brunswick. This means that Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada are very powerful.

You need to order your credit reports with BOTH Equifax and TransUnion to make sure that all items on your report are correct.

The credit bureaus have free reign over your credit information in New Brunswick.

Please post here if you've ever had a problem with Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada.

Visit our website to find out how to order your FREE credit reports
with Equifax and TransUnion.

Beware that you don't wind up paying for something you can get for
free! Google for both of these outfits and find out where you can fax
or mail to for a free report delivered in a few days. Both are
required by law to give you a free report once a year. You should get
it every year because mine is loaded with errors every time I request
one. It doesn't show up as an "inquiry" if you are worried about that.
They charge big bucks to credit grantors for crap and they are
accountable to NO-ONE!

Hi Al,
Thanks for your concern.
We're a professional business that does credit repair. We work
closely with the provincial Ministry of Justice's in each province to
help people fix their credit.

Yes you can order your FREE credit reports with Equifax and
TransUnion. All I was trying to get across is that there is NO law in
New Brunswick that regulates the credit reporting agencies and to
develop aware of this. The more people that know will order their
credit reports. The more people that order their credit reports may
use our service. That's how my business goes.

We're also a member of the Better Business Bureau BBB and the Chamber
of Commerce in Regina

So Al... Have you ordered your FREE credit reports with Equifax Canada
and TransUnion Canada. Their mailing address is located on my
website. There is probably errors on your report if you've never seen
it before.

You're a freakin' spam artist....there is in fact only ONE way to repair
credit....drum role please...LET TIME PASS !!

Credit scores are all the rage with financial institutions and are a very
simply directly related to you credit history, current debt load/available
credit and TIME.

One can ONLY help their credit score over time by reducing debt, credit
obligations and making their scheduled payments !!

Hey gman99,

Wow, you're obviously completely uneducated about the subject of
credit reporting!! Sorry to be rude.

Although time and paying your debts properly are good answers, I see
horror stories each day about people who can't fix their credit
because Equifax and TransUnion are so powerful.

Please read this story for example:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&threadm=f2438715.0...

Robert N Clark fought Equifax for 10 years to clear his name for
information that shouldn't have been on his credit report.

Equifax and TransUnion have to administer approximately 500 million
pieces of credit information monthly. There are tons of errors that
are being about the consumer and it's not their fault.

So... before you call me a spamster, please order both credit reports
from BOTH Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada and see if there are
any errors on your reports.

I don't blame you for your misunderstanding. The rest of Canada isn't
aware that they can order their credit reports and that they can
dispute items on their credit reports.

BTW... you can perform this credit repair service yourself for FREE...
The only reason you would use my service is because trying to
dispute items with the credit bureaus is frustrating and time
consuming. You should try disputing something.

If I might stick my oar in again - I have had no problem fixing
the errors on my reports. I don't believe the story about Robert N Clark.
The key is getting these reports every year yourself and requesting the
corrections. If laws are created regulating this industry they should
require these agencies to send everyone the crap they are selling to
creditors yearly without having to request it.
Gman is right about one thing - TIME. Having tried plenty of so
called "credit repair" schemes during the past 8 yrs following my
bankruptcy, I can say with confidence they are all BULL.

I know Monty would like to sell something - don't buy it!
I thank him for raising peoples awareness though.

Hi Hank,

Don't take my word for it. Call your local Ministry of Justice -
Consumer Protection and ask them. The reason for my post is to tell
people in New Brunswick that there are NO laws in your province that
regulate credit bureaus such as Equifax and TransUnion.

I've sent a letter to your Minister of Justice in New Brunswick asking
him about this. He said that there aren't enough funds to develop a
Credit Reporting Act. Same excuse.

The more people that bitch about it to Ministry of Justice the sooner
these laws will change.

Currently you guys are at the mercy of the system.

What I'm saying is correct. There aren't enough structured laws in
place to help the consumer out.

PLEASE BITCH TO YOUR MINISTRY OF JUSTICE.

Also look at the Federal Privacy Commission's website. - The PIPEDA
act talks about consumer rights with regards to consumer reporting
agencies.

PIPEDA found here:>>>>>
http://www.privcom.gc.ca/cf-dc/2004/cf-dc_040903_e.asp

As nice polite Canadians we never fight stuff. More people need to
fight the Provincial and Federal Governments for their rights.

I'm trying to inform people here. If you fight the credit bureaus,
you'll get results. They've been way too powerful for too long.

I am writing a booklet which outlines what people can do to fight the
credit bureaus themselves. If you're the type of person who likes to
control his / her personal information, this book will be for you.

If you don't fight the credit bureaus, you won't get any results.

THere is no provincial law that regulates credit bureaus in New Brunswick.

Federally the law that deals with credit bureaus is PIPEDA...

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

http://www.privcom.gc.ca/legislation/02_06_01_e.asp

This federal law is brand new and not very well tested.
