If the 78% did not fear that would put the majority of bill collectors on the unemployment line.

nature of the biz I guess, they see being nice as a weakness etc.

78% of ppl pay when they fear getting calls at work, family etc

i've heard of familiy members getting calls....embarrassing?

they work on commissions so you, I are just numbers to them etc....they are happy when they get paid.

very high turnover job, and it does not ask for alot in ways of experience and education etc.

you should file a complaint everytime so it is on record, in BC the Consumer Protection Authority is great and acts on all complaints. I received abusive calls and they were stopped the next day, and never again!

If you have a digital camera take photos of your call dispaly after each call they can be printed or emailed etc.

The main thing you are seeking is to make a record that can be verified.

If you do nothing the harrassment will intensify and they will call your family/work etc.

In my situation a complaint worked and was followed up on.

I am doing that as we speak..I am drawing up a letter that I am sending to our local paper as well as my member of parliament..I have always prided myself on being honest and now this guy is telling me he is taking the word over someone especially after I documented everything and forwarded to him..Grrr!..Apparently the guy told him "I know the law and we would never call anyone more then once or twice a week"..Grrr..I guess it doesn't matter that I wrote down each and every time they called as well as all the numerous messages left on my answering machine.

If the ministry believed them over you without doing any background work, I would go over the head of the person making the biased decision.

I really don't feel filing a complaint will do any good..I filed a complaint after receiving up to 5 calls a day even though I notified the collection agency (CCL) by registered mail (at least 4 times) not to call my home..They denied calling that many times and harrassing me ..Then community services believed them over me even though I forwarded documented proof and closed the complaint..I guess we can't depend on our government to defend our rights..What is the point of having this office if they will always belive the agency over the person filing the complaint..

If you receive any harrassment or calls to your employer etc and any other valid resons of complaint?

The first thing you should do is file a complaint with your local Consumer Protection Branch. Keep notes and file a "Debt Dispute" or "Not the Debtor" with both the agency and collection agency.

They should not contact you after that, if so you can file a claim for damages in small claims.
