They collect for numerous creditors. The best thing to do is call them. Here is their toll free telephone numbers of one of their offices on their site

Equifax cedit monitoring just emailed today to say Total Credit Recovery has made an inquiry to my credit file. Any body know who or what these people collect for? No more info than that.

Actually, I have personally received contact from a collection agency regarding a debt that I owe and could not pay (despite my actually advising the inital creditor of my situation and offering to discuss repayment options) within ONE MONTH....yes darling dear, ONE MONTH....31 DAYS of my attempts to work out the situation with the original creditor.

So shush now. I pay my bills when I am able. When finances do not allow me to do so within the standard time frame, I do indeed try to work out arrangements. And yes, there are times when I have honestly forgot all about a bill, it's called LIFE, I live one, I have a busy job that is often high stress and somtimes things slip by the wayside.

But frankly, whether it's one month, 6 months or 2 years, I WILL NOT deal with the kinds of people who make their living collecting debts. I WILL NOT be bullied and harrassed. I WILL NOT be treated like a common criminal. I WILL learn my rights and I WILL act upon them.

You all realise that you have to be pretty past due on your payments to be listed in a collection agency. And again my question is, has it ever occured to anyone during a 6 month period of financial difficulty to make at least one token payment on an overdue account, or to simply stay in contact with the creditor that the money is owed to and that may prevent having to write posts here about having to avoid those nasty bill collectors??? I know I'm simply wasting my time as everyone here has an excuse for everything and using every law they can possibly quote. Simply pay your bills on time=no phone calls from nasty bill collectors!!!

The island is called Reality. It's not such a bad place. It's rather fun actually.

Oh, and I have personally received the same advise from proper Credit Assistance organizations that I have received here.

It's NOT a matter of trying to avoid paying bills. It's a matter of TRYING to pay bills and outstanding debts without the constant harrassment one receives from collectors, within the framework one can handle financially, AND about KNOWING ONE'S RIGHTS UNDER THE LAWS OF CANADA in these situations. There's a REASON the Government set up the Collections Agencies Act. The more WE know, the better WE will be able to handle our financial situations.

It seems that in these forums on brief glances that the advise being handed out by all you "experts" is too simply tell bill collectors and/or creditors of any sort to go screw themselves because you had a financial difficulty. Having a financial difficulty does not excuse you from paying a bill, and is it unreasonable to think that within a 6 month period you could at least make one payment on an overdue account? It must be totally excusable to simply state I have a hardship, and due to this I simply forgot to make a payment. Please tell me how I get to Fantasy Island where you "experts" live!!!

Back under your bridge troll.

We've covered this ground time and again here, the forum isn't about skipping on your debts, but rather dealing with the consequences of past financial irresponsibility and/or financial distress resulting in default.

Run along now, nothing to see here.

Has it ever occured to anyone on these forums, that actually paying your bills every once in a while would be helpful to you? Just a thought. Raymond funny how you're constantly giving out advise on how to get around bill collectors, but never seem to mention to these people that paying their accounts would be beneficial. Great advise being posted here.

That's the easiest question ever asked on the the forum.

No, there is no privacy left in the world anymore. Every privacy statement known to man (or that I have ever seen) is merely an agreement whereby you agree to surrender all your privacy. I've discussed this with some pretty sophisicated people and, sadly, I'm still waiting for someone to show me I'm wrong.

Like I said before: The priest in the confessional box: that's the only place left on the planet Earth. No exaggeration. What's that you say? You're muslim, an atheist (aka lazy agnostic), a Protestant, a patient of Dr. Phil? Well, I guess, there's no place at all then.

Seeing how the TCR job posting was looking for people with the ability to handle Skip Tracing tasks, that got me wondering if there is a forum on the site that discusses the very subject?. I'd like to know what avenues are available to these collection agencys for tracking people down. Ray, I read in one of your earlier posts that the MTO was selling driver license info to private firms; don't know if that's still happening, but surely there must be some privacy law(s) that prohibit this type of activity?

So if anyone knows which forum is best for this topic, please point me to it. I'd create a forum myself, but I don't believe I have the required privileges to do so.
