Conversation Part #5

Monty: I see. Basically again if something happens after a year, then we just call you at that number?

MBNA MasterAssist: Exactly, and we open a claim and send you documents for the reimbursement of the repair costs.

Monty: So what happens if the fridge is $2,000.00 or $3,000.00? Basically you'll just reimburse for the cost of the repair or replacement?

MBNA MasterAssist: The repair only.

Travel Rewards Canada

Monty: Sounds good. That's just a side note for travel. Can you say again what you cover?

MBNA MasterAssist: Collision, damage and theft of the rental vehicle only.

Monty: Okay. Sounds good. I appreciate that.

MBNA MasterAssist: No problem, have a great day.

Monty: Thank you. Bye-bye.

Conversation Part #4

Monty: That's kind of what I'm asking. So let's say I've got a digital video camera that's worth about $5,000.00…

MBNA Rewards Canada: As the maximum coverage, we provide only $1,000.00.

Monty: Let's say I have another personal - that's for the two people in the vehicle?

MBNA Rewards Canada: That's right. Rewards Points Canada

Monty: Okay, interesting. So we basically call you up from Mexico with the 519 number and then we set up the claim.

MBNA Rewards Canada: That's right.

Monty: Okay, that's good to know then. Is there anything else that this card offers?

MBNA Rewards Canada: The only other thing is purchase protection and extended warranty when you charge items to your Mastercard. Purchase protection - if there's damage within the first 90 days of your date of purchase and the extended warranty is, after the year warranty with the original manufacturer it gets damaged, then you have an extended warranty with the credit card when you charge it in full to your MasterCard

Conversation Part #3

Monty: Okay. So let's say somebody's injured in Mexico, what do I do with that? So if you don't provide that insurance, how do I work that then?

MBNA MasterAssist: Well you'll have to take it with the rental agency or verify with your own personal insurance if they offer that.

Monty: Okay, third party liability. What other kind of services do you offer for my MBNA Travel Rewards Platinum Plus card?

MBNA MasterAssist: The only other thing is personal effects while in the rental vehicle. If they get damaged or stolen or lost in their vehicle, that's the only other benefit that comes with the credit card.

Travel Rewards Canada

Monty: So let's say if I've got luggage and camera equipment, because I may do some filming down there, so that gets destroyed. So how do I give you that information?

MBNA MasterAssist: Then you would have to call us again to open a claim and we would take the information. The coverage on the personal effects with the rental vehicle is $1,000.00 for each insured person. It's limited to $2,000.00 per account. The only things that are not covered are computer software and cellular phones, as well as any money or securities or bank notes or tickets or documents.

Monty: So you're saying computers are not covered?

MBNA MasterAssist: No.

Conversation Part #2

Monty: Okay. So let's just say I get into an accident in Mexico. So you basically, as far as the rental car goes, you'll fix the whole thing?

MBNA MasterAssist: Well we'll reimburse you for the cost of the repairs. It's the rental agency that's going to repair it and then charge you and then you claim with us.

Monty: Oh is that really?

MBNA MasterAssist: Yes.

Travel Rewards Canada

Monty: Okay. So basically you get a bill a month later from the rental car agency?

MBNA MasterAssist: Exactly but you need to contact us within 48 hours of when an incident happens, just so that we can open a claim and send you the document. So when you do receive the bill, you can just send all the documents with the bill at the same time.

Monty: Okay. So if I'm in Mexico, can I call this number, the 1-888-5163-239 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              1-888-5163-239      end_of_the_skype_highlighting?

MBNA MasterAssist: No, it would be by calling us collect with the 519 number.

Monty: Okay, and what is that number?

MBNA MasterAssist: It's 1-519-742-6270.

Phone call with MBNA's MasterAssist - Travel Rewards Canada

This is an actual call that I made to MBNA's MasterAssist
MasterAssist is the insurance coverage you get with MBNA Platinum MasterCard

Conversation Part #1

MBNA MasterAssist: Thanks for calling MBNA Travel Assistance. My name is Lisa, how may I help you?

Monty: Yes, how are you today?

MBNA MasterAssist: Good, how are you?

Monty: Good. I just have a question about your - I've got an MBNA Travel Rewards Platinum Plus.

Travel Rewards Canada

MBNA MasterAssist: Okay.

Monty: If I was taking a trip to Mexico, I was just curious to know about the benefits that the insurance could give me, like for the car rental.

MBNA MasterAssist: Okay. You're the primary account holder?

Monty: I am, yes.

MBNA MasterAssist: So you are the one that has to take the non-renewable rental agreement. You cannot rent the vehicle more than 31 consecutive days. You do have to charge the full cost of the rental to the credit card and I would give you the coverage for the collisions damage and theft insurance of the rental itself. So we don't provide any former third party liability insurance.

Monty: Okay. That's what I was wondering. The fellow who I just talked to said that it covers everything.

MBNA MasterAssist: No, we don't cover the third party.
