This card expiry date is 2011. It looks identical to another active in gooding standing card that I have with BMO.

I should have destoryed that card ages ago...

How to I make certain that when my lump sum payment is received by the creditor and/or the collection agency-that my informaiton is cleared at the credit bureau?

PS I see my full name at the end of each post? Is this viewable to the public blog and if so, how can I change it? I do not want my personal name attached on the public blog.

I am also confused as to how you were able to use a card that was in default, I mean credit grantors cut off your credit privileges when that happens so you've got a real mystery there.

Also whether its a co signed card or supplementary card, you would have signed for it at some point so that’s why you are on the hook.

FYI $2,000 is a good offer to them, make sure you do it right so it doesn't come back and bite you.

Years ago, (8) my daughter supplied a card to me and I did not co-sign for her.

Does this make any difference?

I apologize for the confusion. In essence you have re-capped my information correctly.

Thank you for your comments- now I understand. Even though this isn't my debt because I was an authorized user I am liable for the debt.

So I plan to go to the creditor and offer a one lump settlement in order to clear this from my credit rating.

I think this forum is a fantastic way to help those who are in need of guidance.

The amount of debt is over $4800. I can offer a lump sum payment of $2000. Is this reasonable as this is not my debt but my daughters?

Please advise. With Thanks

It is hard to follow your story -- something doesn't make sense.

1) What I gather is that you co-signed for a card for your daughter.

2) She racked up some debt and then defaulted years ago making the debt stat barred and likely depending on age not reportable to credit bureaus.

3) For some reason you kept the physical card and mistakenly used it recently. For some even stranger reason a card that was defaulted on and years inactive was actually accepted at a merchant.

Is this correct?

----------------------------

Assuming it is the debt is yours as it doesn't matter who actually spent the funds so long as they were authorized users.

If you used the card there is nothing you can do to remove it from your credit report expect to negotiate the removal as a condition of payment.

By using the card you reset the date of last activity to the date you used the card so now the item will appear on your credit report for a little over six years.

By using the card you reset the SoL clock so even if the debt was stat barred it no longer is. That means that now they have the option to use the legal system as a means to collect.

CBV Collections & me

Postby Dragon83 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 06:23:13 PM

My daughter is the primary on the credit card and I am the secondary. The card was not in use for years. But it went into default.

I have a mortgage in good standing and other credit products with credit available.

Last August, I mistakenly used this card as it looked similiar to another and now BMO/CBV are calling me at work and have put me into collections on by credit bureau. Next year I need to renew my mortgage.

What can I do to resolve this? This is not my debt. Please advise me on what I should do. Thank you
