Thanks so much for your help and advice. I contacted the Consumer Protection Branch, and a wonderfully helpful woman advised me that iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency is past the statue of limitations which is 6 years. So when I got a call from iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency today and told them what I had found out Desiree was speechless and immediately transferred me to her supervisor. I guess they really hate it when people educate themselves! So I left a message on his machine and told them to not bother trying to contact me again!

Hi Anne,

If it's 8 years they have no legal recourse as you probably found out with Consumer Protection. If you want to pay your bill you still can... You would only pay it directly to the creditor...

They probably don't have a record of it anyway.

The collection agency is just playing upon your guilt at the moment.

Is it really true that I really don't have to pay this? I told CBC that I had contacted the government and "Desiree" got really nasty on the phone, wanting to know why I would waste my time involving the government in a collection issue. I told her I had every right to involve whoever I wanted to, it was none of her business if I wanted to educate myself. She wanted to know if I felt it was ethical to deny Sprint their money for so long. I let her know that they couldn't want their money too badly if they were willing to wait 8 years to get it!

Technically you don't have to pay. There is no legal recourse for them.

Just to be sure, please contact your local Consumer Protection branch and ask them what their statutes of limitations are..

I believe that statutes of limitations is 6 years in most provinces.

So, does this mean that I don't have to pay this off? Shoudl I pay it off?I don't think it's on my credit report...I should check though.I even contaced Sprint (Rogers now) and the operator told me that she couldn't even read the invoice it was so old. I told them that they had to be oking...calling me after 8 years of no contact. Especially since my number hadn't changed! Thnaks for the info.

Hey Anne Madill,

iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency is way past the statutes of limitations. However they're playing the numbers game.

If they collect enough of these old debts, they may make some money out of it.

It can't go on your credit report, or at least you should check that it hasn't. And it should be cleared off from your credit report from the 1998 issue.

Canadian Bonded Credits Limited ( iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency ) ... they sure like to make their money in different fashions!!

I got a call from these guys for a Sprint account that I haven't had since 1998!!! Sprint hasn't bothered to call me since that time yet they sent my file to CBC, for a measlily $150.00, and the funny thing is...my home number hasn't changed, yet no one has attempted to contact me for 8 years! Now they are demanding that I pay up immediately without written notice, and I can't even get a proper invoice from Sprint outlining what exactly I owe them since they switched over to Rogers here! I demanded that they mail me a written notice stating they have taken over the account to which the rude girl said "why do you need that, it's only going to prolong this for you?" I've worked in collections myself and know the rules, why don't they?

Has anyone received anything by mail from them or just the automated calls? If you refer to the collection agencies act, they are not allowed to call several times a day and are supposed to advise you in writing.
