So you became a Rogers wireless customer but brought your own phone that you bought yourself or had from some other source?

Did you get any type of compensation such as 3 months unlimited talking or data?

If you got nothing then call Rogers and explain that you never took the phone. You should not be under contract. I buy my own phones because I like to have the newest gadget and Rogers phones are usually a few years behind. A few months after I found myself under contract even though I shouldn't have been. I called Rogers and explained and they fixed it. Because 99.9999% of people take the phone the person entering it is so in the habit that even if you shouldn't be on contract they will still enter it that way.

Dealing with the collection agency will not help with the contract issue. That has to come from Rogers who will then lower the amount the collection agency is after.

Why dont you arrange to settle the balance for the $750 since you aren't disputing you owe the debt. And yes they can "track" you.

I did not take their phone. Just had a contract, for which they have a contract breaking fee. I owe $750 which I am willing to pay. But not $1500.

My question is, can the CRS track me if they have wrong name (misspelled), old SIN # ?

You owe the money so pay it.

If your SIN changed that means you are new to the country so possibly you come from a country where credit isn't important and might not appreciate how important it is here. You don't want to ruin your credit over $1500. It will end up costing you a lot more than that over the next seven or eight years.

Also you didn't mention if this was Rogers Cable or Rogers Wireless. If Wireless then the cancellation fees are high because you got a subsidized phone. If you go out and try to buy a phone you'll realize they don't cost $0-$199.99. Usually a phone is discounted $200-700 when you get it from Rogers and if you cancel the service you owe them that. If it is Rogers cable then you didn't return the digital box and/or modem. They assign a very high value to these to discourage people from not returning them. Return the equipment and they will lower the amount owing.

ROGERS question - plz help

Postby cdnbaby2000 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 06:41:06 AM

Hi,

So I got a letter from CRS. They have my wrong name (spelled last name wrong) and have my old SIN number (my sin changed as my status changed in Canada). They have threatened me with legal action and court fees etc. I owe Rogers roughly $750, but they are asking for roughly double of that (with the cancelleation fees and other charges which I think are incorrect)

What would be your advice be? If they dont have my info, can I get away?
