Hi!
I'm on board with you! Even if this is an outstanding bill, they won't give us that information? I would be thrown in jail if I did this kind of harrassment to my neighbour....

I was on maternity leave, and my benefits were the sole income fotr our family of 4; Rogers Wireless cut our celphone service in May of 2006, and I was finally able to start making payments in September, when I went back to work. Rogers still wasn't happy and sent the account to iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency in December. Those computer phone calls started coming, but nearly every time, I or my husband had the baby in our arms - ever try writing a number down that's only stated once while entertaining an almost-toddler? I know I owe money, but a phone call from a computer on average every other day for almost a month is unbelievably rude and frustrating. Finally, with a moment to ourselves on January 2, I call them back and tell the surprisingly patient operator on the other end that a) I don't like the volume and method of phone calls, and b) calling on weekends and before 9 am is probably not legal. She didn't respond, and when she asked me about payments, I stated that I wouldn't be able to afford the whole thing at once, it would have to be made in $50 increments over several months, as this is the month when all my professional fees are deducted from my paycheque. She repeated it back to me, said that it would be noted on my file, and we basically agreed that I would make the first payment by January 30. Now, fast-forward about 20 hours. I get a personal call from Amanda at iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency . She is asking whether I was intending to make a payment in December by the 30th, and I referred to the previous day's call, and the agreement I had made with the company's representative. I did not go back over the rationale; why should I? It's supposed to be recorded on my file. She told me I had to pay the $50 right away, which I did not on that day have and did not expect to have; I told her no, I wouldn't be able to do that, it would be paid by the 30th. She asked if I could borrow it, and I said no. I repeated the deal I had already made, and she said she'd make a note of it, and then hung up on me! And the computer called me again today. I decided to make the sacrifice and make the debt gone, because my husband and I are planning to buy the house we're currently renting and need to improve our credit, but I definitely have zero respect for this company and its business practices.

I've spent months working with my MPP and the Ministry that should oversee the industry. My opinion - they're usless. In fact the ministry says that it looks at every case individually - which begs the question "how can similar cases result in similar action without policy" or is everyone treated differently?

To get attention we need collective action. What I'm trying to put together is people interested in a class action suit based on the company using insufficient tests to verify the numbers it calls are associated with the sought person.

The fundamental argument is the company operates in Canada and repeated calling is a criminal offence (section 372 (3)) unless for a lawful purpose. I expect that they will argue that collections is lawful purpose but I don't think it's a blank cheque. Because repeated calling is a criminal matter the company has a responsibility to ensure it's data is correct, and I expect it uses the least intrusive method possible. As far as I can tell it does nothing but a reverse look up (address to phone number) and then proceeds with the most intrusive process possible. I think uniunvolved people are frequently called repeatedly. To me that is negligence which negates and "lawful purpose".

I'm meeting with a lawyer this week. Hopefully if I can get enough people they'll take it on contingency. Interested?

If you can forward my message to anyone else who might have had the problem that would be great. How did you come across it?

iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency called once in August 2004 leaving no indication as to whom the call was for, so when I called back as requested I got the dreaded answering system, today January 16th 2005 I recieved another call and once again I am not sure who it is for or for what reason. Upon my call back once again all agents were busy so I left my phone number with area code and still no reply. How can a person stop this? To me it is a form of harassment and if getting very annoying and upsetting.

I'm trying to reach people who've been repeatedly called by Canadian Bonded Credit.

I'd like to understand the circumstances of your calls.

If you've been called please send me an email outlining:
- Whether the calls were intended for you
- If not
- did you return any notices sent to the person they're calling for
- did you recently move into the address they called
- did you recently change your phone number
- How many calls did you receive?
- Are they still on-going?
- How would you describe the calls?

- Do you feel the government should control this type of calling?

Let me know if you'd be interested in participating in processes to control this activity as I have an number of ideas.

Please visit my blog on this issue at www.irresponsiblecalling.blogspot.com or email me your story at irresponsiblecalling@gmail.com.
