5 months ago, I spoke to my Bank ( Scotia ) and the manager said I should apply for a secured card but I I have to clear by debt and show them that I cleared it

Now, since then I am here and I see that Capital One is popular so I was going to apply for that but as you said its not going to matter

I thought I have a better shot at the card if my credit report showed no balances and also
1) Richard mentioned in his earlier post

2) I called Cap one and their rep said it would be better if everythng was clean

Now, your question has actually raised another point

My bank manager said I have to show him that I paid all the debts so he can make a case and send to the right people ( now how would settlement letters look? ) would that look bad as opposed to paying of the whole thing

Would applying for Cap one and then maybe go with Scotia Secured to show them that I was approved for one before I applied to them

I don't think it's going to matter if you’re going to apply for a secured card. Which credit card company are you applying for?

Since Equifax is faster in updating my credit report than Transunion, should I wait for transunion to show my debts are settled before I apply for a Secured Card?

I mean transunion is painfully slow and what equifax shows settled 3 months ago still shows pending in Trans union ( I did send the proof and dispute ) but my debts are almost being settled and if equifax updates settled do I have to wait for transunion to show settled and then apply?
Does Capital One see Equifax or Transunion
=============

Also, I have a debt from HBC and they say the account is with Triumph Asset Services, all these guys have is a voice mail but they haven't returned our calls ? what should we do? wait but how long

HBC is not on my credit report ( it was in 2006 report ) but then disappeared since 2008 credit reports

So if above is not on my report, and my debts are cleared ( except above who haven't called back ) would it still be OK to apply for a card

Get your secured card after all your debts are settled.

I know for a fact you can get them once a month if you want because; I used to get them to see if the creditor updated my file. I wouldn't ask the local office; just go in once a month or every two months and get one done.

I have a local Equifax and Tran’s union in my city and I can go in every week or every month if I want. If you’re going to get it by mail and fax it, you could get it within three weeks and do this every two months by mail if you want. They encourage people to get their reports especially if you have paid or settled debt to see if the creditor has updated your file. The forms to fax are on their site and you need to photocopy two pieces of your id.

Why not get your credit reports for free by mail?

Applying for a 100% Secured Card in the middle of Debt Settlement

Postby reggie2828 » Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:00:11 AM

I have a Supplementary US Debit Visa card and I was purchasing my Equifax/Transunion online reports to keep track of my settlements

I called Equifax to ask a question about my score and got myself in trouble, with a rude customer service agent who said I cannot buy a credit report without my own Canadian credit card and basically canceled my account. I called again and got the same answer from another agent

======================

Transunion is safe so far but I am more concerned about Equifax

I see there is a http://www.horizonplus.ca/faq.html 100% Secured card which I believe should not be denied as it as good as a prepaid visa.

Now, since I have 2-3 accounts yet to be settled and even though I don't see them inquiring on my reports, would it be a bad idea to apply for one?

As settlements are seen as hardship and a application might jeopardize the chance to settle

I want a card so I can check my credit reports every month till I am completely clear and then I can go for a secured card from my bank or capital one

Can someone advice

Also, if it weren't a bad idea, is it better to go with horizon plus
