Hey Connie,

I used to work for collection agencies for 9 years and sometimes certain companies will tell you that they will pull the account they never do. They simply take your money and then pay the agency their commision. They will never refuse money......
There are different circumstances if they have sold the account off. You will always be refered back to the agency since as far as they are concerned the account is closed.

Connie,

I have had a file removed from a collection agency and have made payment to the company itself.
The company was Nordon, and this goes back several years.
Be very careful about doing this, because often times, the collection company will hang onto the information and try to collect again in years to come, even though you paid the debt to the original company.
Make sure you save ALL copies of documentation, cheques, and a letter stating the payment was made from the original company you owe the money too. If you discard this information, the collection company will give you the burden of digging it up again.....even years later.....

No, they will not refuse the payment. They will advise the collection agency that the money was received. The collection agency will probably want a copy of it for their files, then close your file.

Hey Connie,

I think I'm going to write an ebook regarding collection agencies in Canada.

There are certain reasons that you don't have to deal with them. I would recommend reading some of the posts in the Collection Agencies area.

There are things you can do to take control of the phone call from a collection agency.

Please read over the page on the link and let me know if you have any questions.

THERE ARE LAWS THAT COLLECTION AGENCIES MUST ABIDE BY. It's helpful to know about these laws.

I just want to add that I found the BBB website was helpful for getting phone numbers and names to contact a centre directly (if you know which centre your account is held)...

Ok, so after a long and frustrating afternoon of calling iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency 's many centres - I finally get a hold of the Branch Manager of the centre where said (previous post) agent works. I now understand where the attitude comes from!!! I have no doubt that this branch manager slowly worked her way up the ladder from starting off as an agent herself. Because she did not want to handle my complaint but she was more concerned with why my account has been with them for so long - and if I had paid it I would not have received the calls yesterday. She quickly learned that I was not going to let her have control of the call (I learned a lot from this site and its various posts!). She has pulled my account and said the agent would be coached (I believe my account will be pulled however, I know better than to believe the agent will be talked to about his unprofessionalism. I have worked in a call centre both as an rep and as a superviser/traniner - so I know the corrupt politics that go on. Agents such as the one who called me get a slap on the back because they are the ones bringing in the money. Anyway, I still would like to pay off my debt, does anyone know if the original company can refuse my payment?

Can the original company refuse my money if my account has been passed over to a collection agency?

Postby cpike » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:00:00 AM

I am having a problem with iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency and found this website when I was searching for their phone number. I would like to file a complaint regarding one specific agent/supervisor (received two calls from the same person claiming to be two different people). I have tried all afternoon to get their employee IDs and to get the calls listened to by a REAL supervisor. But I am having no luck. I am willing to pay of my bill, however, after today's experience I will NOT be handing over any money to iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency and it will be over my dead body that this representative will get commission/revenue from the successful resolution of my account. What I would like to know - if I sent a cheque to the company I originally owed the money to, can they refuse it and tell me to pay iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency ? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have only taken a quick glance at some of the posts so I'm sorry if this has already been answered - but is there somewhere I can file a complaint against this company and its harrassment. I am in New Brunswick. Thanks!
