I have a friend that owed Columbia house about $150.00 years ago and he avoided them. He finds out years later that Columbia house sued him and was awarded a judgment. I guess Columbia house got fed up with getting ripped off and now will not hesitate to sue.

I just had the same issue... but I had a previous account, but know it was paid because my mother paid it for me and we got in a fight over it. I called them and asked them to confirm the original account number, the date my membership would have been started and the address at which I resided at the time. They were crazy at first calling me a deadbeat to which I replied "a deadbeat wouldn't call you back" and then explained to them what I did for a living, therefore I understood their tactics. I after having my calls and emails ignored by one agent, finally asked for someone else, who went back to Columbia House to get back up information and when they couldn't provide proof, recovercorp sent me an email for my records that my account is now closed because they cannot collect without the backup information therefore I am not obligated to pay. I'm happy I fought it and saved 150 bucks... I worked in subprime credit for many years and had to argue with these hooligans on behalf of clients many many times.

Recover Corp / Comumbia House

Hey all.

I'm not sure if this is the right location for this post please move it if necessary. I am very concerned and as my user name reflects. I'm very annoyed.

I worked very hard to pay off my bad debts without claiming bankruptcy. I wheeled and dealed with lenders and collection agencies and got myself back to zero. I was young and stupid and made mistakes but I made good on those mistakes and i'm proud of myself for that.

Here's what has me concerned. Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from RecoverCorp inc. concerning a balance they say I owe to Columbia House (a record and dvd club for those who don't know). I have never been a member or had any relationship at all with Columbia House.

I'm going to contact this Recovercorp company tonight after work to address this. If anyone has any suggestions to make this go smoothly it would be greatly appreciated.

For once i'll be talking to a collection agency when they are the ones in the wrong. However i know how arrogant they can act and if they refuse to ackowledge their error i'd like to know how to handle myself without losing my professionalism.

thanks for your time and consideration.
