I have just paid the University the full amount via BMO online bill payment (what i used to pay the university before). Sadly i wasn't able to get in contact with someone knowledgeable there and with a high fever i couldn't wait the 2ish hours in line.

I will see what the future holds, but i'm pretty sure everything is straighten out.

I realize he is a student in our country from a foreign country. They still can open up a credit file in his name without a sin number. We don’t know what this student’s future holds and he might decide to take up canadian citizenship someday after he is done school.

Average Joe, if you read carefully of what Claude wrote, he's a foreign student. How can an international student be possibly have a credit score in a foreign country?

Claude, the only reason you want to pay that amount is to maintain a good rapport with the university. Regarding the collection agency, you don't need to give a damn about it.

I'm going there face to face with the school bill + iqor letter + debit card.

Hopefully all works out well, the university takes my money and contacts iQor to tell them to close the case. The one thing i have in my favor is i have been paying this debt off, it's not like i ignored it and didn't pay anything.

They put people in the collection section of peoples credit file for less. If you call the university and they see you have been making regular payments, you might avoid getting a negative item in your file. I would call them first thing Monday.

The collection agency job is to collect on behalf of the university. If the university or the collection agency decided put you in the credit bureau, there isn’t much you can do about that now. The only thing you can do is pay this debt of ASAP and hope they did not put this item in your credit file. If that happened they will update your credit file once the account is paid and this item will remain on your credit for six years.

Thanks i'll do that.

Also, I was told if I pay iQor then i'm acknowledging my debt and my credit rating dies which is why i'm better off dealing with the University. Is this true?

I would get your credit check with Equifax and Tran’s union done and see how your credit is.

Well it's getting paid this Monday one way or another. iQor told me i have 10 days to pay up from the date of the letter (dated Feb 6th and received Feb 13th).

I'm a foreign student, studying in Quebec, how bad will this affect me?
