I hear you Monty, loud and clear. I’m ticked too. But if there is a time for the government to spend money on infrastructure and our cities the time is now. Getting into debt over it is a terrible side effect but the money has to come from somewhere.

On a side note, our politicians are responsible for our economy and the finances of the country. I wonder how many of them ( on a personal level ) are on financially stable ground.

I bet if the truth was ever exposed we would see a lot of politicians with tons of personal debt. I mean, are there any prerequisites for politicians to demonstrate personal financial responsibility before they can act for a country?

Food for thought eh?

Products and services such as what? Fix the roads? Provide EI? Health care? Etc, etc?

Isn't all that and more a good chunk of what government does? Isn't THAT what we pay taxes for? I was always taught that. At home, in school.

So in your mind, the Government should just not do anything at all and let everything turn into Iceland?

I think we will be out of this mess in three to five years if were lucky. It will depend on America. The worst is yet to come.

oyyyy.... what i meant was... that Canadians tighten their belts and NOT expect the government to deficit spend.

tighten their belts by not requesting all of the products and services that would cause the government to deficit spend.

The gov't doesn't want to Canadians to tighten their belts, that’s why the economy is going this way. If Canadians spend more then no need for stimulus packages.

Individual Canadians tightening their belts has NOTHING to do with the government pouring money into infrastructure and other industries to create jobs and help maintain current jobs.

I have tightened my belt. Not going to help anyone but me and my husband in the end. Heck, it may well end up costing jobs in areas that we used to spend money. Because I doubt we're the only ones cutting back.

Part of the function of the government is exactly what they are talking about doing. Plain and simple. Government Finances are TOTALLY different from individual and corporate finances.

What the heck else are my tax dollars supposed to be doing if not going towards all the things the government is supposed to do and expected to do?

My video reply to prime minister harpers $34 billion deficit spending

While I think that the deficit spending is born out of the economic situation we're currently in and facing, I still believe that Canadians can tighten their belts and live with out the deficit spending part.

Don’t give heck to Harper, give heck to the Canadians that believed his garbage that re-elected him. He out smarted Canadians and Canadians fell for it. I guess Canadians never learned their lesson from the Mulroney regime.
