I don't think they care; they are making so much money. The issues that need to be corrected can be added into their software easily.

They may well be useless, but they have a lot of power to mess things up. I just don't understand why they seem to have so many problems fixing such issues.

Transunion needs to fix their systems. Does anyone have any advice?

I have no use for Tran’s union. I find Equifax has more advanced software then Tran’s union. I find things come off your file at Equifax when they expire.

I think you are right - but consumers should be able to remove this stuff if they want. Ultimately, if this information is on file, it can be used to do further investigations into people that wouldn't otherwise be possible, no?

It is only the derogatory information that is regulated, as far as I have been able to discern.

Transunion 20 year rule - is it legal?

Postby pogorelichfan » Fri Jan 16, 2009 02:01:06 PM

Hello everyone,

I pulled my bureau recently and found over one dozen old accounts listed (well over 7 years) which are otherwise dormant (non-derog).

I wrote Transunion asking them to remove them and they said it is THEIR policy to keep them on file for 20 years (if good) - in contrast with Equifax, which only keeps things on file for 7 years (good or bad).

My question to members is this: is it legal for Transunion to do this? After getting the run-around, I wrote the creditors involved and asked them to write the bureau to remove them - some already have and transunion removed them - BUT when I've wrote them to do the same thing, they refused!

What is going on?
