Thanks.. I'm not wanting to dispute anything, I just want some legit information that I can trust in. If that's even possible, gee.. what an evil system to get involved with..

I keep thinking I'm gonna wake up next to a horse head on my pillow :)

The bank will have an internal recovery department that you can talk to, they all have that. They will be able to give you the contact info for the ombudsman if you wish to file a formal complaint or dispute.

About 18 mths ago, but I'm not sure on that. Needing to be a bit private on the other questions.

How much was the balance when you last stopping making the payments and what year was it. How much is the balance now?Which bank do you owe the money too?

AJ, is this ombudsman department specific to each bank? Have you ever heard of someone not being supplied with the contract? If so, what happens to the debt at that point?

It's in their contract and the bank should give you a copy of your contract. If the bank doesn't, call the ombudsman dept and complain. They are good in covering their tracks.

I wonder if there are ever any contracts that DON'T allow for third-party collection agencies? I just can't imagine the banks not having that in small print somewhere..

The methods I mentioned earlier are the best ones I know of so far. The credit counseling places are a long term solution and don't save you any money.

I had read that section, too, AJ

The lady I spoke with, in Live Chat, was good.. she reminded me to get everything in writing.. but she certainly put a lot of faith in how professionally the CAs were going to treat me, once I paid.. That comment stood out, mostly because I'm a little less trusting of these CAs the more I deal with them.
