Forbes Magazine: Beware of Zombie Debt Collectors!

Postby Raymond » Sun Nov 16, 2008 11:37:56 AM

It's official; now even Forbes Magazine is calling debt buyers and collectors, "Zombies." Does no one have any respect for outfits like Aktiv Kapital and ARO?

(Note the article contains some info about state limitations acts that are not applicable in Canada.)

When Nats Comes Aringin', You'd Better Come Abringin'

Postby Raymond » Fri Nov 14, 2008 09:29:48 PM

Reduced intellect, anger management issues? Just be grateful collectors don't have weapons. Then you'd have people with no intellect and no anger management skills possessing them. Oh hang on a minute; rumor has it that some of the Somali pirate expats working the phones at collection agencies across Toronto have managed to keep some of their "hardware" on hand should clients prove uncooperative.

Why do you suppose collectors stopped making housecalls back in the 1980's? They didn't make many but I do know that iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency did because I saw them collect from a neighbour's house. Forest Hill too, if you can believe it; but I doubt they visited many homes in Regent Park or Rexdale.

As well, if you look at the company Deanna Natale works out of, Global Credit and Collections; you'll see from my Oct. 27, 2008 post on thread 457, how their office is constructed with tighter security than a Hells Angel's' bunker.

Recall how fast she got on the phone to Monty last year when one of her disgruntled ex-colleagues posted her home address and phone number in Markham, Ont. on the forum.

Her former alma mater, George Krieser's Total Credit Recovery also has 24 Hour security. No one gets in the building they don't want to be there. These guys don't make too many friends. Like I said last year, let's just hope they open an office in Baghdad.

"Because all collection agencies are pathological liars, [the CBV branch in Montreal is unbelievable], ALWAYS make sure you obtain a clear signed agreement in writing that says "final settlement" before giving them any money. Otherwise, they'll probably be after you for additional money within the year. Usually, agencies will affix a generic name like "manager" or "supervisor" at the bottom of such proposed agreements without identifying any particular person. When you see this, it's almost always a ruse. The idea is to get the person paying something and renew the limitation period."

Ray, I follow what you are saying with respect to the trickery certain C/A’s may invoke in order to get/keep the "fish on the hook".

With that in mind, one thing that I haven't seen discussed in these forums during my months of reading pertains to how come there haven’t been reports of people “snapping” and taking non-legal type action towards the agencies and their collectors’?

When I think of the verbal abuse I’ve heard from certain collectors’ in the past, it pales in comparison to what other people have reported. If this were the USA where firearms were more easily obtainable, then my feeling is that there would be hazard pay added to the base pay those zombies take home.

This is not to suggest that I endorse violence towards these ruthless scumbags; I'm simply pointing out that it baffles me how those with both a reduced intellect, combined with anger management issues, have refrained from “crossing the line”.

O.C.
Infuriating one C/A at a time..

Weekend Meditation

Postby Raymond » Fri Nov 14, 2008 10:34:51 AM

Enough of all this money wrangling!

Who will it be this weekend?

Randy or Brock?

Most of the MMA guys at the gym are picking Randy. I can't argue but he's 45! Still, if Couture could fight like he did last year against Gonzaga, he would likely clinch it.

Unfortunately, there are no certainties in MMA, unless it's Fedor

If they are offering you 59%, you can be sure they are willing to settle for much less. How much lower depends to a large extent on the age of the debt.

It will still remain on your 2 credit reports if it is there already. In some cases, paying off a debt causes the collection agency to shunt the "date of last activity" forward on the "Collections" section of the TransUnion report and on the "Public Record and Other Information" section of the Equifax report. If that is the case, you will have to contact the 2 bureaus to correct the errors.

Because all collection agencies are pathological liars, [the CBV branch in Montreal is unbelievable], ALWAYS make sure you obtain a clear signed agreement in writing that says "final settlement" before giving them any money.
