prepaid legal is pretty hard core in marketing.
They have good value, but the question is, when does a person use that value.
The way it was described to me was, I have a CAA card and sometimes I'll use it.... It's good to have in case of emergencies, but how often do emergencies crop up.?

It's a good insurance if you have legal questions.

I joined PPl on Wednesday and by Friday I cancelled my associate and monthly fee. Great startup fee of only $72.99 and 26.00 per month. However I just didn;t receive sufficient information at the business meeting to fee comfortable to continue.

When I asked certain question's I didn't receive the feeling that they were knowledgeable or experienced enough to answer. Other than try the service and see if it works for you.

Perhaps if I was confronted by individuals who were trained to a higher level of knowledge I would not have cancelled. and would be quite content.

The meeting appeared to be more about signing up new members as opposed to a knowledge based seminar on the service that is offered.

I do have an issue that requires attention, perhaps they are right for me , however I would like further knowledge and without it I must place things on hold.

When I contacted the head office, I asked for further information prior to cancelling my membership. I was advised to review the website.

I found this on Prepaid Legal's website..

It includes the services it offers and those that it excludes.
Nothing like clarity on the situation.

I find that when somebody calls something a rip off, it either means that they didn't fully understand what they were getting into, or they didn't value the service as they thought they would initially.

Being a legal type of business, I'm pretty certain that prepaid legal is well regulated, and the legal structure of the business is pretty strong. Law firms ARE NOT going to get themselves into legal trouble.

Canadian Prepaid Legal Discussion - Do you like it or hate it?

Postby montyloree » Thu Jul 24, 2008 09:21:46 AM

I've started to promote Prepaid Legal on this site, for people who live in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

There are some people who really like Prepaid Legal in Canada and some who think it's a rip off.

From my understanding it's a great service. You get unlimited phone support, 1 letter written per situation, a free Last Will & Testament within the first 60 days of being a member.

IMO.. that's pretty value. It's something that I would use on a weekly basis if it were available in Saskatchewan.

The side that might seem irritable is that you only get one letter per situation. This means that if you require more than one letter for a legal situation, you're going to pay a discounted lawyers fees for subsequent service.

Another thing I learned was that you won't get these lawyers to represent you in court.

This is mostly a phone service with 1 letter writing per situation. For $35 per month I would find that wildly valuable.

In most cases, I don't need to write multiple letters. But, I DO have questions on an ongoing basis regard my rights with companies, creditors, local governments etc.

Getting a quick consultation from a real lawyer regarding matters makes me feel much more in control as an individual. I love knowing my rights and what the law actually says in a matter.

How many times are you in a discussion with a family or friend who has a car stolen, or medical issue, or consumer issue with a company they bought from. There seems to be only speculation as to what their rights should be. Getting a consultation from a lawyer would make people alot better educated to the reality of their situation.

This is not something we're used to as Canadians. This is because you normally can't pick up the phone and get cheap legal answers from a law firm. With Prepaid Legal you can.

My take on Prepaid legal is that it's great for somethings and limited in others.

If you're getting a divorce and you need a lawyer, prepaid legal is going to be limited. If you've got ongoing legal problems with a person or company where you need ongoing lawyers present, prepaid legal isn't going to be for you.

If you're involved in a DUI, or another infrequent activity where you need legal support, then prepaid legal is fantastic. If you have a question about a consumer issue and need to know your rights, Prepaid Legal is a good service.

I just think that the benefits and the actual structure of Prepaid Legal in Canada needs to be explained more.

I would be pleased to hear from others who have used Prepaid Legal's service and has comments about it.
