The statutes of limitations for those types of debts is usually around 6 years. This means that after 6 years the collection agency / creditor has no recourse. Usually these collection agencies buy these old debts on pennies on the dollar and then try to collect them.

If you haven't paid it, you may want to check with your local consumer protection to find out what the statutes of limitations is on that debt.

Let us know how it goes.

I've been having dealings with this company for the past couple of months or so. It actually started last spring with a call from them (recorded message, of course). It strongly urged me to contact them, and gave me a confirmation code. I called them back, and after being on hold for about 10 minutes, I got through to a live person. I was told that I had an outstanding balance with Sprint Wireless for $104.00, from the early 1990's(!) I informed them that I had never had an account with Sprint, and they obviously had the wrong guy. That seemed to be the end of it.

Then, a month or so ago, I received another message from them, and went through the same crap, again insisting that they had the wrong guy. This time, I told the guy that I didn't want to hear from them again.

A week later, another call. Now I was getting particularly irritated. I asked the guy I (finally) got through to, how to make them go away. He gave me a 1-800 number to call, which was for Rogers, who had bought out Sprint's wireless business. He said that he was only acting on Roger's behalf, and couldn't close the account on my behalf.

If anyone has tried to get through to the right person at Rogers, they know what a hair-pulling and frustrating exercise that can be, but I persisted. After getting bounced around through the Rogers Empire for about 90 minutes, I finally talked to a woman who made some calls on my behalf. Interestingly, neither Rogers, or Sprint Canada had any record of any account held in my name (what a surprise!) She even called Fido on my behalf, since they had bought a portion of Sprint Wireless' network. Again, nothing. Then, I got disconnected with this woman, and by this time, I was so mad that I called iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency back. I told the woman that I (finally) spoke with the results of my call to Rogers, and then I asked her what information she had about me, and what iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency was basing their harrassm...oops, I mean their claims upon.

She told me that she only had my name, address and phone number. I told her to send that info to me and we would go from there.

Two weeks later, and I get another message from this black hole of an outfit, and I called them back, seriously mad. The highlight of the conversation (after being on hold for about 10 minutes) was being lectured by the clown on the other end of the line. He couldn't believe how irresponsible I was for not resolving this before now. I told him that they had the wrong guy, and to save his lecture for someone else. Then he asked me what I was willing to do to resolve this. I told him I was willing to tell him to eat sh*t. He said that I had three options: I could pay the balance in full (fat freakin' chance of that!), I could pay a settlement (see previous response), or file a police report for identity theft, and fax him a copy of it.

To make a long story short, I contacted my local police force, and was told that I would have to sign an affidavit and get a lawyer involved if I was reporting an identity theft crime.

Because of the age of the debt, the small amount and the fact that iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency had next-to-no info about me, that I should wait till they call me again, or call them back and tell them to "pound sand", and see ya in court.

So here I sit, frustrated. These leeches have picked the wrong guy to mess with, because I will not be intimidated.

My situation is a little different from most I see on this site, the first time that iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency called I responded back immediately to try and figure out what they were calling about, I always pay my bills that come in. I first was called by my maiden name, which I have not used for over 51/2 years. They explained that a certian creditor was trying to collect for some items that I never ordered or recieved. I call the creditor to see what this was all about. I finally after several call back & forth what it was about. I explained to the creditor that I was not using that name & the address they had I have not been at for 5 years. They said that it would be cleared up and for me not to worry about it. The creditor said unfortunately it would take about 4 to 6 weeks to clear it with iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency . I call iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency to let them know that everything was taken care of and even made sure I had a name, number and extension number of the person to contact at the creditors. I have received more call from iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency to inquire about what was going on, the first call I thought that something was not placed on their system to not call me. I recieved yet another call which I responded again. I was told that until it was cleared from their account I would recieve calls over and over again. I feel that this is harressment and I would like to know what I can do to stop this.

Any comment as to how I can become rid of these phone calls & clear this matter up would be great.

Thanks Karen,

I deal with two agencies for my student loans. One is CBV. They take my payments monthly and I don't hear a peep from them. They seem to be happy that I'm paying. The other is CBCHeLL. I get that blasted automated message about three times a week. Then, like others' experience, when I try to get back to them, there's nobody around to talk to. I make my monthly payments religiously but that's not good enough. I also recieve letters from them threatening legal action if I don't pay my account in full. They've been sending those letters for over a year. More than anything these messages are annoying. It is the definition of harrassment as far as I'm concerned. If anyone knows how to get back at this classless agency please let me know. Can I purchase one of these automatic call back machines so I can program it to bug the hel out of them?
