It actually depends on what type of insurance you are going to take or you have already taken. You have yo refer the underwriting instruction manual to get a clear idea.

I take this opportunity to welcome Steve,Ruth and James to this forum. There are lot of companies who claim to give some of the best policies on earth.AIG sounds cool and check this out Ruth http://www.aigassurance.ca/fcp_feat_bnfts.asp . Steve ,it is really nice to hear that you are interested in Underwriting.Today in the 21st century the underwriting process of a life insurance policy is still a mystery to most in the financial professionals and especially to their clients. In essence the underwriting process includes the following three steps:

* 1. Examination of the application
* 2. Decision as to whether to insure
* 3. Determination of the premium

Steve, check this out for further details- http://www.professionalreferrals.ca/article-1438.html

Before we actually start investing in life insurance ,there are certain things we need to keep in our mind.First we need to calculate the amount of liquid assets we have on hand and the amount of liabilities. Then, we will know our financial status and thereby we can decide how much we can leave for our survivors.

Montyloree has asked a wise question and it is very relevant considering the present scenario that is existing in Canada. The decision making process taken by an Life Insurance company whether to accept the risk or not and If so, at what rate of premium. This is termed as Underwriting .I am sure this would have solved your worry.
